Scrumptious Saturdays: Ad Hoc

Recently I had a chance to dine at Ad Hoc, a scrumptious restaurant nestled in California's beautiful wine country. The anticipation of eating here had me all giddy with excitement and my mouth salivating as I could only imagine how delicious it would be.

This restaurant has a unique and interesting story of how it began. When it opened, Ad Hoc was supposed to be a temporary one (hence the name) while the originally planned restaurant was being designed.  The concept of the restaurant was simple where they would serve a simple 4 course family style menu 5 days a week.  The restaurant became so popular it became permanent.

Everything about the restaurant is so simple, from the decor to the menu but the flavors are anything but simple. It's delicious

The set menu costs $52 per person and I couldn't resist documenting the meal I had the pleasure of enjoying.  I don't think my words could do the food justice....

The restaurant just before opening

Endive and Watercress Salad
baby leeks, broccoli romanesco, tarragon, marble potatoes, toasted hazelnuts, sherry vinaigarette

Roasted Pork Shank
ruby grapefruit glaze, creamy polenta, braised fennel, crispy sunchokes, musque de provence pumpkin, charred castelfranco

Vella Cheese Co's Mezzo Secco
Roasted pepper stew, arugula, maldon flat bread

Tiramisu
house made ladyfingers, toasted almonds

I died and floated up to foodie heaven after this meal. The veggies were so fresh and flavorful, the pork was so tender and juicy, the cheese platter was the perfect interlude to the most delicious tiramisu that had subtle bites of saltiness that was perfectly interwoven with its creamy sweetness.  Sorry I think I just drooled over my keyboard reliving this meal. :P

The restaurant is opened 5 days a week (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from 5pm to 10pm, as well as for brunch on Sundays (10am to 1pm). If you are planning to go after a lovely day of wine tasting, I highly recommend making a reservation.

Ad hoc is located on 6476 Washington St. in Yountville, CA

  1. I went there for brunch with my friend last time i was in Napa too. She loved it since they served the fried chicken with waffles that she has been craving. It was a little too heavy for me for brunch but it was very delicious nonetheless. It's also a sister restaurant to the famed French Laundry (both owned by Thomas Keller). His other restaurant "Per Se" in NYC has been on my wishlist forever!
